Hey, I just wanted to apologize for my column this week over at TCJ. I didn’t think it through. It was one of those times where I felt like I could show a fucked up and “difficult” comic and not really have to elaborate on why I thought it was interesting. My response to Jason Karns’s work is an example of wanting to have your cake and eat it too. I still admire Jason’s craft as a comics creator, however I recognize that the subject matter - as opposed to the work’s formal qualities - is highly problematic and renders my full embrace of his aesthetic, I now realize, mistaken.
